EarthShare Gardens is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
organization whose mission is to produce organic food as our way of caring for ourselves,
each other and Earth.
EarthShare Gardens began with a meeting of community members and ULL
students in January, 2002 and is the first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program
in Acadiana.
EarthShare Gardens is located at 412 Carmel Avenue, Lafayette La behind the old
Holy Rosary Institute. A portion of land is dedicated to a cooperatively run Community
Supported Agriculture garden. Shareholders pay a subscription price each season to
receive a portion of the harvests from the garden. Currently there is a waiting list for shares.
Email earthsharegardens@gmail.com for information regarding shares.
A donation/market garden provides fresh,
organic produce to donate and sell in the North Lafayette neighborhood.
A little more info...
CSA Garden - Community Supported Agriculture provides the anchor
for EarthShare Gardens, both financially and community-wise. This garden,
located on Holy Rosary Institute property, provides a connection for local
community members to their food source in an environmentally and globally
safe way. The produce is sold through subscription at the beginning of the
season, to be distributed at regular intervals throughout. We currently
have a waiting list for shares.

In the Past:
Educational Garden - In partnership with
Volunteers of America,
EarthShare Gardens provided support and technical assistance to the
Volunteers of America alternative school garden. The students learned
backyard vegetable growing techniques, cared for their garden weekly and
harvested the fruits when ready. They were then free to take home the produce
for dinner or preserving.
In the Future:
EarthShare Gardens has plans for a Community garden, a children's garden and a medicinal
herb garden in the near future.
Currently:
Donation Garden - There is a plot located on the EarthShare Gardens' site and
maintained by ESG and volunteers. Produce from this garden is distributed to St. Joseph's Diner and The Salvation
Army. St. Joseph's Diner prepares and serves an average of 200 breakfast and lunch meals each day. The Diner also
delivers meals to the homebound. The Salvation Army prepares a dinner meal 7 days a week.
Your Own Garden! - Are you looking for a bit of land
to have your own garden? Would you like to have your own garden within a larger
"community garden" where you can be around other like-minded gardeners, perhaps sharing
ideas, seed catalogues, a bit of labor, etc.?
EarthShare Gardens has space for such a Community Garden to emerge
next to our own vegetable plots, and we'd love for you to join us. We
supply the plots of land, and water. If you are interested, please contact us at
earthsharegardens@gmail.com
*Gardeners will need to refrain from using chemical
fertilizers and pesticides/ herbicides. EarthShare Gardens at times may be able to supply
manure, compost, and mulch materials, and can offer assistance in chemical-free gardening
techniques.
